Pergolas built to last, on a patio built to match
A good pergola turns a patio into somewhere you actually sit: shade in summer, a frame for climbing plants or lights, and a bit of privacy from the neighbours. A wobbly one gets noticed every time the wind picks up.
We build timber pergolas across Andover, Winchester and the surrounding area, usually as part of a new patio or garden. Because we lay the paving as well, the posts, the patio and the drainage are planned together. The frame sits square, the slabs run neatly around it, and rainwater has somewhere to go.
Built around how you use the garden
Some pergolas frame a dining table, others cover a sofa, a hot tub or a hanging chair. We size the frame to the space and the furniture, add boarded or slatted panels where you want privacy, and set the posts properly, either concreted into the ground or fixed down to a solid base.
Want lights or a heater underneath? Tell us early, and we can run the ducting before the patio goes down.
- Heavy timber posts and beams, set solid
- Privacy panels and screens where you need them
- Patio, paving or tiles laid underneath as part of the same job
- Ducting for lights or heaters planned in before the paving
The patio underneath matters as much as the frame
A pergola is only as steady as what it stands on. We dig out and lay a properly compacted sub-base, then lay porcelain, natural stone or block paving with falls that carry water away from the house. As approved installers for Marshalls, Brett and Bradstone, we lay products with the manufacturer's backing.
Combine a pergola with garden paving, new lawns or a garden room and we will plan it as one job, so the whole garden works together. Have a look at our landscaping work for ideas.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need planning permission for a pergola?
Usually not for a freestanding pergola in the back garden, but the height and position matter, particularly close to a boundary or in front of the house, and listed homes have stricter rules. We flag anything that needs checking before work starts.
Can you build a pergola on my existing patio?
Often, yes. If the patio has a solid base we can fix the posts down to it. If it does not, or the patio is due for replacing anyway, it usually makes sense to do both together.
How long does a pergola take?
A pergola on its own is a short job. Built alongside a new patio, the paving is the bigger part of the work. We give you a timescale with your quote.
